The weather in Ontario, as inconsistent as it may seem at times, is starting to warm up. This means that it’s time to finally awaken the sleeping beauty (aka your motorcycle) from your garage and allow it to tear the road yet again. To start off this season with a bang, here are great destinations that make for awesome motorcycle trips.
Bobcaygeon – Gooderham on the 507
This motorcycle trip is on the lower end of this list in terms of length; however it is the higher end in terms of pure driving bliss. Located in Southern Ontario, this route is filled with plenty of twists and turns. It is renowned for its scenery as well.
A very classic ride, Lake Superior is definitely a go-to destination. Riding 2,300 kilometers along the shoreline of this prolific lake, there are several destinations and stopping points to experience. Completing the entire trip itinerary can take up to 8 days, however the duration heavily varies depending on how much time you want to spend at different stops.
Highway 60 – Algonquin Park
Algonquin Park has been a historically popular destination for riders. Highway 60 is one way of riding there, which is open year round and features an amazing riding experience. Algonquin Park has some of the best nature views to experience, making this ride easily noteworthy.
Another location with emphasis on views, Rattlesnake Point is a terrific route for a motorcycle trip. Hosting a solid stretch of high quality, windy roads surrounded by forest, Rattlesnake Point is a great tourism point. It hosts tours of caves, rock climbing, and extraordinary vistas.
The premier location of ride the edge, Highway 141 makes for one of the province’s greatest motorcycle trips. The stretch around Bent River is popular among motorcyclists and the route in general is a pleasure to ride. It is close to Muskoka and the aforementioned Algonquin Park, meaning you can extend your trip to visit those two as well.
Popularized by motorcycling fanatics on the internet, this previously hidden gem is worthy of admiration. With constant inclines and declines, twisty roads, and intersections, this is a route you want to return to again and again. Additionally, with several parks, delicious restaurant stops, and settlements, there is no dearth of things to do.
If road quality is an important factor to you, Niagara-on-the-Lake might be the route for you. Traversing from Niagara-on-the-Lake all the way to the falls, you will get great views. Niagara-on-the-Lake has quaint, upscale shops to check out and Niagara Falls has several destinations of interest as well. Ditch the touristy spots at Niagara Falls and explore somethings new. Enjoy the oceanic breeze as you begin your season with this route.
Cruise the Coast
Cruise the Coast is a ride along Lake Eerie. This route hosts several wind turbines, lighthouses, and restaurants. Every Friday 13th a large group of motorcyclists go on a Cruise the Coast escapade to Port Dover as well. Whether you wish to ride in a group or solo, Cruise the Coast is a great option
Super Loop, Grey Bruce Route
Ride Grey Bruce offers eight motorcycle routes in the Grey Bruce region of Ontario. This is roughly 1 ½ hours from most major cities. Our pick for the route to kick off the beginning of the season would be the second route, formerly known as the “Super Loop“. This one day ride offers a great experience as it trails some of the most exciting paths Ontario has to offer. It also connects to several points of Ride Grey Bruce’s ‘Epic Road’ route. If you have done this one before, try route 6, Fuel-Up tour. The Hawg’s Breath in Kincardine follows a tradition of marching down the Mass Pipe Band to the Main Street on Saturday nights in Kincardine. Join the ride wagon!
Screaming Heads, Burk’s Falls
Located in Northern Ontario, this route is worth the travel as it provides a very unique experience. Screaming Heads is an art project that has left over 80 sculptures of screaming heads (as the name would imply) on the roadside of a very large stretch of land. Since then, the sculptor has added even more sculptures to the area, such as 20+ feet sculptures of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The trees in this area look very much like screaming heads as well. It’s a perfect backdrop for a very spooky ride.
Want to make your motorcycle trip even more memorable? Make sure your vehicle is in good shape! A motorcycle breakdown in the middle of an adventurous trip is a huge killjoy. Your bike may require some warming up considering it has been idle for a while. Also, check for proper insurance coverage for your vehicle if you are planning on riding to conquer the roads this Spring.
